John Marlowe, reputed member of the Fabian Society, has died in mysterious circumstances. The widow, Anna Marlowe, contacted her husband's spirit during a session with the famous medium Madame Blavatsky. As a result, she says she believes she knows who her husband's killer is, but Scotland Yard investigators prefer to inspect the scene of the crime and question persons of interest.
